Just as most in the world are aware of New York City, we New Yorkers are aware of the rest of the world - I believe more so than any other group of Americans.

These are my images from the republican national convention. I went to New York to document the convention for five days and I ended up spending two of them in jail. I was not taking part in any protest, simply documenting, but I did enjoy my time in jail because I was able to experience that aspect of the convention as well, I only wish I allowed to have my camera.

It's a little unnerving to walk around in the capital of the country you live in, and see pictures of the president of your home country on signs with the word "terrorist" on them.

It was an extremely hot day in Hong Kong, yet half a million Hong Kong people marched on the street to fight for their rights. I was exhausted carrying the banner in the intense heat. Hong Kong needs freedom and democracy.

Protests during the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July 2004; what they lacked in scope, they occasionally made up for in flair. I was lucky enough to catch some of the more interesting parts.

This woman is about to lead a huge "no-global" protest in Barcelona. She dressed like a married woman because it is not so "photogenic" to beat a married woman. This is nowadays a classic media-activist way of protesting.

Saturday I found Greenpeace protesting in Düsseldorf. It was actually a small information point for the local elections in this state. And the Greens got some outstanding results this time.
